WELCOME to the world of Accounting in schools...

Through this site the WCED will endeavor to keep educators, learners and parents up to date with the latest developments in Accounting.
We hope to use this as a means of communication, where the different stakeholders will share ideas.


ACCOUNTING is a subject that enjoys increasing popularity amongst schools, educators and learners as they begin to realise the value it brings to learners.

It is a subject that empowers learners with valuable skills, which everyone needs at some stage of their lives.

SAICA Thuthuka Bursary Application 2018

 The Thuthuka bursaries are awarded annually to deserving learners. Only learners doing Mathematics as a subject will be considered.  The closing date for applications is 30 April 2017.  Teachers are encouraged to make learners who qualify aware of this bursary. SAICA Accounting Olympiad 2017

The SAICA Accounting Olympiad will take place on Wednesday, 2 August 2017.  The closing date for entries is Friday, 28 April 2017.

SAICA Accounting Olympiad 2016

The Western Cape winners of the 2016 Accounting Olympiad were honoured at a prize giving ceremony on Monday, 24 October 2016. The ceremony took place at Westerford High Shool during their weekly assembly.

The ceremony was attended by the winning learners, their parents and teachers, Ms Betty Abrahams (SAICA), Ms Christelle Theron (Sage One), and officials of the Western Cape Education Department. Mr Terence O’ Connor, Accounting subject adviser of Metropole Central Education District, addressed the assembly, thanking SAICA for organising the Olympiad and for their continued support; and Sage One for their sponsorship.  He applauded the winners for their achievements and highlighted the need for qualified Chartered Accountants, encouraging learners to consider this profession.

Dr Glynis Schreuder congratulated Westerford HS for their achievement as the 2016 winning school and in particular Mrs Judith Snyders for her role in coaching the team. She used the opportunity to encourage the Grade 9 learners of Westerford HS to take Accounting as one of their Grade 10 subjects.

Ms Christelle Theron of Sage handed the prizes to the following winners:

The accounting olympiad is an annual event and has enjoyed an increasing interest by schools and learners.
