Terms & conditions to register as a member

WHO MAY APPLY FOR FREE MEMBERSHIP?

  • WCED institutions
  • Educators (permanent or temporary) at an educational institution/home school, registered with the WCED and within the borders of the Western Cape Province
  • Retired WCED employees
  • School Governing Body members
  • Members of NGOs contracted/remunerated by the WCED
  • Educators under contract to the WCED for a specific period and remunerated by the WCED
  • Staff of WCED Adult Learning Centres
  • Lecturers of EDUCATION at TVET colleges
  • Lecturers of EDUCATION at universities
  • Students completing an Education or Library Science course

HOW TO APPLY?

  • Complete theONLINE FORM
  • ID numbers and Persal numbers (where applicable) are a prerequisite for registration

LIBRARY LENDING SERVICE

ISSUING

  • Members are requested to produce their EDULIS Library cards when visiting the library in person or to provide their membership numbers when borrowing material in any other way
  • Material may be borrowed in person or requested by post, telephone, fax or e-mail request forms are available for this purpose
  • 10 items may be borrowed for a period of 28 days
  • Special reference books, textbooks and archival material may only be used in the library

POSTAL SERVICE

  • Address labels for the return of library material are enclosed in parcels which are sent out to borrowers.  Postage is free of charge.

RENEWALS

  • The loan period may be extended twice for a period of 28 days each time, unless the material concerned is required by another borrower
  • Renewals must be requested before or on the due date this may be done in person, or by post, telephone, fax, e-mail or on line on the SLIMS:http://education.slims.gov.za/desktop/desktopewc

    • Fill in the required information

OVERDUE/LOST/DAMAGED ITEMS

  • Reminders are sent out for material not returned on time
  • The borrower will be required either to replace a lost or damaged item with an identical copy, or to pay the current replacement cost
  • Membership will be suspended until these requirements have been met

RESERVING MATERIAL

  • Material which is not immediately available may be reserved reservation forms are available for this purpose
  • Material cannot be reserved for a specific date

INTERLENDING

  • Material may be requested from elsewhere by way of interlending, provided the request is work-related

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • EDULIS Library is a special academic library for educators
  • A member is responsible for material issued on his/her card
  • Materials may only be issued on another members card if consent has been given either telephonically or in writing
  • Members are requested to report the loss of a card promptly a replacement will be issued at members’ own cost
  • Lost or damaged material must be reported as soon as possible

CODE OF CONDUCT

EDULIS Library is committed to providing a welcoming, secure and supportive environment conducive to information access, research and study to support teaching and learning.

The following Code of Conduct outlines the response we would expect from EDULIS clients:

  • Lock your big handbags, parcels and shopping parcels, etc. in the lockers provided
  • Keep other valuable personal itemswith you at all times
  • Allow library staff to inspect bags if the alarm sounds when leaving the library
  • Do not bring food and/or beverages into the library
  • Adhere to acceptable levels of dress and personal hygiene (keep shoes, shirts, etc. on at all times)
  • Refrain from disruptive behaviourandexcessive noise
  • Return all items used in the library to the Circulation Desk before leaving the library

Clients who do not conform to the Code of Conduct may be asked to leave or be refused access to the EDULIS Library in the interests of other clients.
